Jesus as the Great Physician

When we call Jesus a physician, we mean He is a healer. But His healing is more than what a doctor can do.

A doctor mends the sickness and wounds of our bodies. But, Jesus, as the great physician, mends the entirety of our being.

He brings peace to our worried minds, forgives our sins, mends our broken hearts, and gives us hope when we feel hopeless.

Understanding and experiencing God's love through Jesus as the great physician leads to renewal, acceptance, and a deeper personal relationship with God.

In An Almighty God? Get Serious!, Darlene Lamoureux faced a life-threatening brain tumor, and she wrote about the peace she felt, knowing that God was with her and Christ was her ultimate physician, even when things looked terrible and hopeless.

“I felt calm. It’s that peace that surpasses our human ability to understand it.”

Darlene's testimony in her writings inspires us to seek hope and healing within our own lives through faith in God and the promise of Christ. Her past struggles shaped her faith and her trust in God was deepened because of it.

These quiet and invisible spiritual victories remind us of God's grace and transformation.

There is a peace that comes from trusting Jesus as the great physician: a deep trust that He is in control, no matter what happens, and which means aligning your thoughts with God’s promises.

Finding Spiritual Support in Hard Times

When we are sick, our bodies feel weak. Our spirits feel weak, too. We might feel afraid, angry, or sad.

In these moments, making choices that support our spiritual health is essential—we have to choose to respond in faith rather than fear. This is when we need spiritual health support.

Adopting a faith-based lifestyle in which our daily habits reflect biblical principles can help us stay strong during hard times. Thus, we must let God strengthen our inner selves through prayer, Bible reading, and the love of other believers.

Even when ill, we can find spiritual support by turning to God and our community.

Darlene leaned on this support, and she knew, intimately, that she was not alone--never alone. She had friends and family who prayed for her, helped her, and provided for her needs. The most heartwarming anchor was that she knew that God was with her.

Supporting one's house—our family—during illness is a biblical priority, reminding us to care for those closest to us. This is a key part of Christ-centered healing. We do not have to go through our struggles alone. We have God and His people to hold us up.

Where is He When We Hurt?

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. --Proverbs 17:22

It is normal to ask, Why would a good God allow sickness, But, admittedly, this is a tricky question, and the Bible does not always give us a simple answer.

But it does show us that God takes notice of those who seek Him with a humble heart and sincere prayer. When He notices our pain, He hears our prayers.

Jesus lived on earth and felt the pain and sadness of humanity himself.

Regardless of what causes it, Jesus cares deeply about our suffering, and God’s purpose is often revealed through times of hardship.

In these moments of sickness, God's love offers deep reassurance and comfort, reminding us that we are never alone, even in our pain and questioning.

In An Almighty God?, Darlene shares that someone once asked her if there was indeed an almighty God, and He supposedly loves everybody so much, then why did he let their mother die from such a horrible disease?

This is a genuine cry for help--painful and full of grief.

Darlene's answer was not simple, but it was based on her faith, saying that, instead of asking why God did this or why God didn't stop that, she looks for the benefits that come from suffering, like stronger faith and a more profound sense of hope.

She learned to see God’s purpose even in the pain, trusting Jesus as the great physician of her body and soul.

Challenges will always enter our lives, and how we respond can shape our spiritual growth.

Sometimes, our past experiences and wounds influence how we handle suffering today. Emotional pain can be deep, and it can be genuinely terrible to bear.

In these moments, we must resist the negative influence of Satan, who seeks to turn our hearts away from God.

Listening with the ear of faith for God’s guidance and keeping our heads focused on His promises helps us endure.

Your Healing Journey with Jesus

Healing may not always look the way we want it to. Sometimes, God heals our bodies completely. Other times, He gives us the strength to live with our sickness, showing His power through our weakness. But He always offers to heal our hearts and give us a peace that nothing else can.

‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” --Revelation 21:4

This is the ultimate healing that Jesus, as the great physician, promises to all who believe in Him.
